Air Purifier Best PracticesUpdated 8 days ago

Where to Place Your Sans Air Purifier

Getting the most out of your Sans starts with where you put it. Here are some simple guidelines to help you find the best spot.

Start with the room you use most

If you have one unit, place it in the room where you spend the most time — usually the living room or bedroom. This is where you'll notice the biggest improvement first.

If air quality while you sleep is a priority, the bedroom is a great starting point. Sans has a complete lights-out mode so it won't disturb you at night.

Give it room to breathe

Place your Sans on the floor with at least 12–18 inches of space between the unit and any walls, furniture, or curtains. Sans pulls air in from its surroundings, so it works best when air can flow freely around it from all sides.

Avoid tucking it into tight corners, behind furniture, or inside cabinets — these spots restrict airflow and reduce performance.

Keep it in the same room as the source

If you're using Sans primarily for cooking odors, place it in or near the kitchen. If pet dander is your main concern, put it in the room where your pet spends the most time. If dust is the issue, your main living area is usually the best bet.

Sans is most effective when it can capture particles close to where they originate, before they spread throughout the house.

Closed doors change everything

Sans purifies the air in the room it's in. If a door is closed, very little of that purified air reaches the next room. In an open-concept living space, one unit can cover a large area. But if your bedroom door stays closed at night, that room benefits from having its own unit.

A good rule of thumb: if the door is usually closed, that room needs its own Sans.

Flat, stable surfaces only

Always place Sans on a flat, hard floor. Avoid placing it on carpet, rugs, beds, or uneven surfaces that could block the air intake at the base of the unit or cause it to tip. A hard floor gives the best airflow and keeps the unit stable.

You don't need to move it around

Some people move their Sans from room to room throughout the day. You can — it's lightweight and easy to carry — but it works best when it stays in one spot and runs continuously. Sans uses very little energy on Auto mode, so there's no benefit to turning it off when you leave the room.

Multi-room and multi-floor homes

For homes with multiple floors or several closed-off rooms, one unit usually isn't enough. Here's a general starting point:

  • Studio or one-bedroom apartment: One Sans Air Purifier or one Mini is typically sufficient.
  • Two to three bedrooms, single floor: One Sans Air Purifier for the main living area, plus a Mini for the bedroom.
  • Larger or multi-floor homes: One unit per floor at minimum, with additional Minis for bedrooms or rooms with closed doors.

The Sans Air Purifier covers up to 1,854 sq ft per hour in open space. The Sans Mini covers up to 490 sq ft — ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, and home offices.

A note on what "working" looks like

Once your Sans is placed and running, you might not notice a dramatic change overnight — and that's normal. Sans works quietly and continuously, capturing airborne particles before they settle. Over time, most customers notice less dust buildup on surfaces, fewer allergy symptoms, and fresher-smelling air.

Your real-time AQI display is the best way to confirm Sans is working. You'll see the numbers respond when you cook, clean, or open a window — and watch them come back down as Sans clears the air.

Quick checklist

  • On the floor, 12–18 inches from walls
  • In the room where you spend the most time (or where the problem is)
  • Not behind furniture, in a corner, or inside a cabinet
  • One unit per closed-off room
  • Left running continuously on Auto mode
  • Trust the AQI sensor, not how the filter looks
